Clinic with Vitor Ishiy fills Joy Table Tennis and delivers a rare high-performance immersion.

São Caetano do Sul (SP) - Joy Table Tennis experienced a historic Saturday. On November 15th, the center hosted Olympic athlete Vitor Ishiy for an intensive high-performance clinic that brought together amateur athletes of different levels in two completely sold-out sessions.

With more than 15 participants in each group, the experience delivered exactly what it promised: rigorous training, precise corrections, and an experience close to the routine of the national team, but accessible to the average player.

Professional training for the amateur athlete.

Over the course of 3.5 hours per session, Ishiy led a program based on four pillars that form Joy's philosophy:
Fun to learn, technique to evolve, creativity to respond to the game, and intensity to compete with clarity.

The program included guided exercises, thematic series, and competitive blocks with goals. There were also moments for individual analysis, in which each participant received direct and objective feedback on priority adjustments.

According to the athletes themselves, the format made a difference. The demanding pace, the short correction cycles, and the presence of a national team athlete, in addition to the Olympic athlete as a sparring partner, created a rare, challenging, and inspiring environment.

"[...] Seeing the kids, when I started they weren't even half at the level they are today."
So I'm very happy to see Brazilian table tennis evolving [...]"
- Vitor Ishiy

What happened on the court?

Both periods followed a similar structure, always focusing on execution:

• Guided warm-up with quick assessment of fundamentals
• Serve and receive sequences
• Point series with timed or set goals
• Individual correction with post-event training guidelines

The model avoided lengthy speeches, prioritizing hands-on communication, decision-making, and qualified repetition.

The impact on those who participated.

The clinic was designed for athletes already accustomed to structured training and the dynamics of festivals and tournaments. The predominant profile was of players seeking tactical organization, improved third ball handling, and greater consistency under pressure.

The reported gains were concentrated in three areas:

Technical improvements include improved contact, first-ball consistency, and table distance adjustments.
Tactics: quicker reading of the opponent and intelligent variation in serve/reception.
Mental focus routines between set points and goals to sustain competitiveness.

Many participants also highlighted the clarity of Ishiy's corrections, which transformed errors into specific tasks for the next training cycles.

Vitor Ishiy: a reference both on and off the table.

A 29-year-old from São Paulo, Vitor Ishiy is one of the most consistent names in the Brazilian National Team over the last decade. He competed in the Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

In the most recent edition, he debuted in the individual competition with a 4-0 victory over Australian Nicholas Lum and helped Brazil reach the team quarterfinals again, eliminating Portugal in the round of 16 before falling to France.

His experience in international competitions was evident in the details he conveyed to the group, from reception patterns to emotional intelligence between points.

About Joy Table Tennis

Located at 807 Nazaret Street, in the Barcelona neighborhood, Joy is a center geared towards beginners and amateurs seeking consistent progress. Its philosophy blends intensity with a relaxed atmosphere, short workouts, and clear goals. The event with Ishiy reinforced this identity, demonstrating that it's possible to train with high demands without losing the lightheartedness of learning.

Why the event matters

Clinics with Olympic athletes shorten the learning curve. The quality of the exercises, the precision of the corrections, and the experience of a high-performance rhythm expose the amateur to the real demands of the sport.

Joy's immersion demonstrated that this bridge between high-level and grassroots levels is possible, educational, and transformative.

The expectation now is for the next edition, since the event reinforced Joy Table Tennis as one of the main centers for training and developing amateur table tennis in the ABC region.
