“Marty Supreme,” an A24 production, has surpassed the $100 million mark at the worldwide box office, becoming the studio's fourth film to achieve this historic feat. The film, starring Timothée Chalamet as a fictional table tennis champion, has now grossed $102.3 million globally.
Prior to this, only three A24 productions had surpassed that mark: Everything Everywhere All at Once with $142 million, Civil War with $127 million, and Materialists with $107 million.
The result is even more remarkable considering it comes at a challenging time for independent cinema. In 2025, "Marty Supreme" and "Materialists" were the only independent films to surpass $100 million, reinforcing the cultural and commercial impact of the production.
Bold marketing and positive word-of-mouth boost the film.
Much of this success is due to the unconventional publicity strategy led by Chalamet, coupled with strong word-of-mouth among critics and audiences. Of the total gross, US$80.8 million comes from the United States, while US$21.5 million comes from international markets.
The main territories outside the US include:
-
United Kingdom: US$16 million
-
Canada: US$ 5.7 million
-
Mexico: US$ 944 thousand
It's worth noting that A24 distributes its films directly only in the United States, forming partnerships with local distributors in other countries.
Recently, “Marty Supreme” became A24’s highest-grossing film in the United States, surpassing the previous record held by Everything Everywhere All at Once . Its international performance could still grow, as the film opens in 12 new markets in the coming weeks, including Australia, Brazil, and Italy.
High cost, even greater prestige.
With an estimated budget of US$70 million, "Marty Supreme" is officially the most expensive film ever produced by A24. This means that, even with its current success, the project has not yet reached the point of profitability, considering that about half of the revenue goes to exhibitors.
Nevertheless, the film's strategic value is enormous. In the awards circuit, the production has already earned Timothée Chalamet the Best Actor awards at the Golden Globes and the Critics' Choice Awards, in addition to being a strong contender for the upcoming Oscar nominations.
Directed by Josh Safdie , the film follows the intense journey of Marty Mauser, an athlete willing to go through hell in pursuit of his dream of becoming the best table tennis player in the world, in a frenetic, adult, and emotionally charged narrative.
